SetEdit (Settings Database Editor)

4A

SetEdit (Settings Database Editor) for Android is a settings app specially designed to be a fully-featured database app.

Provides direct access to the Android settings database A settings database app that is an excellent Table Notes alternative.

WARNING — We do not guarantee that problems caused by the improper use of this utility can be fixed, and we are unable to help you with any such problems.

We support only this app, not your device’s system software. Settings Database Editor (SetEdit) is invaluable if you need it, but if you’re not careful you’re very likely to mess something up.

By default, for your protection, Android prevents you from modifying the SECURE and GLOBAL tables.

If you have Android Jellybean or later, you can remove this protection from an ADB shell using the command “pm grant by4a.setedit22 android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS”.

On earlier versions, you can only remove this protection on a rooted device by installing SetEdit to the system partition.

Android Q and later will ask you to “check for updates”. Please ignore this. We can’t stop this warning without reducing SetEdit’s functionality, and we will not do that.

Settings Database Editor is a great app for manipulating the various internal settings of your phone and also various apps – for example, prior to YouTube releasing Dark Mode, Settings Database Editor could be used to toggle an internal flag for the YouTube app that enabled the previously hidden Dark Mode.

So what you need to do is first install Settings Database Editor, but do not open it yet.

Attempt to enable your hotspot via the normal Android settings menu, and allow it to tell you that hotspot cannot be enabled on your device.

Now close the Settings menu, and launch the Settings Database Editor.

What just happened is that when we tried to open a mobile hotspot, it wrote a line to your phone that reads “tether_entitlement_check_state” “5”.

Now launch Settings Database Editor, and scroll down to “System Table”, and find the line we just mentioned. Change the value “5” to a 0, so it reads “tether_entitlement_check_state” “0”, save, and close Settings Database Editor.

Now you should be able to enable the built-in mobile wifi on your LG phone. Be very careful about future updates from LG that may break this workaround, and if this guide doesn’t work for your device, there are some alternatives to try.
